ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – After sitting empty for years, an aging pool in the basement of Anderson High School is forcing the Forest Hills School District to weigh a costly decision: spend millions to bring it back, replace it entirely, or fill it in and repurpose the space.
The Anderson High School pool opened in 1961 and closed in 2019 after it began leaking badly. The pool was losing between 2,000 and 4,000 gallons of water a day, and district officials were not sure where the water was going.
Earlier this year, the Forest Hills School Board commissioned a report outlining the issues surrounding the pool and offering conservative cost estimates for possible solutions. The options include restoring the pool for $5 million, building a new pool for $9 million, or filling it in and using the space for other purposes for at least $800,000.
