Illegal dumping costs Hamilton County property owners, taxpayers millions

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Each year, hundreds of illegal dump sites are reported throughout Hamilton County, leaving property owners and taxpayers on the hook to clean up the waste.

Rick Carlson has spent the better part of the last three decades buying up empty lots with the vision that one day, they may be worth something. He says his plan isn’t paying off like he’d hoped.

“They throw the trash in the street. They throw it over here. You know, usually it’s like four or five feet. They pull up a truck and throw it out in the middle of the night and pull away,” Carlson said.
