Surveillance cameras debate continues in NKY years after installation

NEWPORT, Ky. (WXIX) – Flock Safety cameras used by law enforcement have come under scrutiny since they first appeared in Northern Kentucky two years ago, with many wondering if surveillance has gone too far.

Meanwhile, Tom Collins, a former Newport police chief and a candidate for Kenton County sheriff, is defending the use of the cameras, arguing they are useful tools during investigations.

“They’re good for law enforcement, and I can see where people think that it’s a violation of privacy, but when they come across the bridge and stuff, the information is gathered just like it is when a police cruiser goes down the street, and it can really be a useful tool,” Collins said…
