Clearwater gets update on downtown development projects

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater City Council and residents learned more about development happening in long-vacant buildings in downtown Clearwater and major projects that could be on the way.

At a work session held Thursday night, council members were told the effort is being funded by members of the Church of Scientology. Nine properties along Cleveland St. between Osceola and Myrtle Avenues are either in the process of undergoing renovations or are expected to be in the future.

The anchor is meant to be a massive, state-of-the-art family entertainment center. City Councilman Michael Mannino said he requested Thursday’s meeting be held in the interest of transparency, and to bring city leaders, the public, the church, and other stakeholders together to answer questions about the development.
