DUNEDIN, Fla. – A beach day turned into an active emergency scene when a small aircraft made an unexpected landing in the water just off the coast of Honeymoon Island State Park.
Dunedin Fire Rescue crews rushed to the scene following initial reports that the aircraft was experiencing a mechanical emergency mid-flight. The pilot managed to bring the plane down in the Gulf, coming to rest approximately 25 yards away from the shoreline.
Everyone on board managed to exit the cabin safely on their own and make their way through the water to the beach. Fire and EMS personnel met the occupants on the sand to conduct immediate medical evaluations.
