Suspect wanted after 123 mph crash and explosion

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) – More than a year after a car crash sparked a deadly explosion in Cleveland, an arrest warrant has been issued for the man, who officials claim, was behind the wheel of the car.

According to court documents, Christopher Terry, 39, was driving a 2019 Dodge Challenger at 123 miles per hour when he lost control on E. 139th Street. The car struck a tree, went through several front yards, struck the porch and front of an apartment building, then continued down the street where it struck the front porch of a house and came to a final stop.

The incident happened Nov. 19, 2023, at about 8 p.m.

The driver fled the area but left behind significant damage.

According to the arrest warrant, the damage at the apartment building, located at 3405 E. 139th Street, caused a gas line to fail and the building to explode “minutes after the accident.”
