New library program provides free monthly food boxes for seniors

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A new program is giving seniors another reason to visit the Cuyahoga County Public Library — not for books, but for groceries.

“Senior boxes” launched this month in partnership with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank as part of a new effort to help older residents stretch their grocery budgets.

Residents who are 60 years or older and meet certain income requirements can get a monthly food box filled with shelf-stable staples like cheese, juice, powdered milk, and canned meats and vegetables…
