Man sues over ex-East Cleveland cop’s ‘outrageous’ manipulation in murder case

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man who spent seven years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit sued East Cleveland on Tuesday, a month after authorities said a detective struck up a sexual relationship with the man’s girlfriend and coerced her into falsely testifying against him.

Jerry Sims Jr. was serving a 40-and-a-half-year prison sentence when his former girlfriend told authorities that former acting East Cleveland police chief Kenneth Lundy threatened her unless she lied and told a jury that she saw Sims kill a man in 2017.

Lundy last month was charged with 31 felonies, most of which stemmed from accusations over his handling of Sims’ case. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges…
