Willoughby, Ohio (WOIO) — A routine traffic stops last year in Willowick that began with an expired license plate quickly escalated into a multi-city police chase, an alleged carjacking, and a crash before ending with an arrest in Bainbridge Township, according to authorities.
Police identified the suspect as Jacob D. Montgomery, 32, of Ashtabula.
How it unfolded
According to a release from the Willoughby Police Department, Willowick officers attempted to stop the driver of a blue 2019 Subaru on Euclid Avenue just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Police said the driver struck a police cruiser and fled from the traffic stop.
Willoughby officers assisted as the pursuit entered the city, blocking intersections and attempting to deploy tire deflation devices to reduce the risk to the public, police said.
