Cuyahoga County leaders address 1,000+ at risk of losing SNAP benefits due to new federal requirements

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cuyahoga County officials will discuss the new implications for the over 1,000 residents at risk of losing their SNAP benefits due to new federal eligibility requirements.

Back in February, 19 News reported on the new changes issued by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS):

  • Adding SNAP work requirements for adults who are aged 55 to 64, Able-Bodied Adults (ABA).
  • Removes work requirement exemptions for residents experiencing homelessness, youth formerly in foster care and veterans.
  • Adding work requirements for parents whose children are all age 14 or older.
  • Changes to the standard utility allowance for customers in receipt of the Home Energy Assistance program who are not elderly or disabled.

According to the release, the state has started notifying those affected, with at least half of them age 55 or older.

Leaders from Cuyahoga County Job and Family Services, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and other community partners will be discussing the implications and resources available to those facing food insecurity at 10:30 a.m. on Friday…
