(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said sometimes having a pet feels less like “living with an animal” and a little more like living with a tiny, emotionally complicated roommate. HSPPR said it has resources to help pet owners work through common concerns.
HSPPR said a lot of pet behavior challenges are not signs that you “failed” as a pet parent or that your pet is “bad.” Usually, these behaviors are communication of stress, fear, frustration, and confusion, big feelings packed into a furry little body that unfortunately cannot attend therapy or send a well-worded email.
That is where the Behavior Resources team comes in. HSPPR offers behavior support resources and 25-minute phone consultations to help pet owners work through common concerns like:
- Separation anxiety
- Reactivity on leash
- Fearful behavior
- New pet introductions
- Litter box concerns
- Excessive barking
- Destructive behavior
- And all the other weird little habits pets invent to keep us humble
HSPPR said these services are available for everyone; your pet did not have to be adopted from HSPPR to reach out for help. HSPPR said you are not alone, your pet is not broken, and there is a good chance the behavior you are stressing about is something our team has heard about 4,000 times before…
