Family of man killed in deadly officer-involved shooting filing lawsuit against City of Colorado Springs, CSPD officer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The family of Alex Martinez-Sarmiento is filing a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Colorado Springs and the Colorado Springs officer who shot and killed him.

The shooting happened on July 5 of last year. Colorado Springs officer Connor Wallick shot and killed 26-year-old Martinez-Sarmiento in a parking lot next to the Mansion Nightclub in downtown Colorado Springs.

According to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, officers were canvassing the area, looking for a man brandishing a gun. Police say Martinez-Sarmiento ran from officers and reached for his waistband, leading the officer to believe he had a gun…
