FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KKTV) – As severe weather continues across southern Colorado, law enforcement officials are reminding residents to be cautious of scammers and contractors who may try to take advantage of homeowners dealing with storm damage.
After hailstorms and other severe weather events, neighborhoods often see an increase in roofers and contractors offering repair services. While many businesses are legitimate, officials say homeowners should take steps to protect themselves before agreeing to any work.
“There are people out there that prey on you in a situation when you’re vulnerable,” said Lisa Schneider, public information officer for the Fountain Police Department. “That’s usually what their mechanism is. If you’re ever feeling, you know, like you’re being scammed, hang up the phone.”…
