Mountain lions in the big city? Believe it or not, it probably happens a lot more than you think in Colorado. Mountain lions are known to travel to more populated areas in search of prey, though they can tend to go unnoticed, quietly lurking in overgrown areas and avoiding human contact. A good assumption tends to be ‘if the prey is there, the predator probably is, too.’
With that said, a Redditor recently reported that a mountain lion was spotted in Colorado Springs’ westside Old Colorado City neighborhood – image included, which shows the mountain lion lurking in brush. While this part of town is indeed closer to the mountains, it’s very developed and tends to be a tourism anchor for the city thanks to its many bars and restaurants. It’s also worth noting that this article is based on a report from Reddit, not any sort of official source – that said, if someone learns about this predator’s presence and that knowledge saves a pet from getting snatched, the coverage is worth it in this writer’s opinion.
According to the Redditor, the mountain lion was spotted just west of the historic Old Colorado City Library and Bancroft Park – where the local farmers market and many other events take place. More specifically, the Redditor noted it was seen in the area of 25th Street and 28th Street.
