SLED charges Richland County woman with insurance fraud

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A 30-year-old Richland County woman is now facing charges of insurance fraud after an investigation by South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

According to arrest warrants provided by SLED, Jasmine Shada Grate has been charged with Forgery – Value $10,000 or More and Presenting a False Claim for Insurance Payment, Value $10,000 or More for her alleged actions on or around September 30, 2021. On or around that date, Grate allegedly falsified an Employment Verification letter for a man, identified as Granison Dwight Peterson, 31, to be submitted to Geico Insurance in an attempt to gain lost wages greater that $10,000.

The letter Grate allegedly wrote advised that Peterson worked as an independent contractor for MellyGirl Logistics with a salary of $1,500 per week and he had been out of work from May 18, 2021 to August 3, 2021…
