Isolated severe storms, flash flooding possible this weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. — It was another hot afternoon with Columbia making it to 99 with heat index values reaching between 100 and 108 degrees across much of the Midlands.

If you’re heading out Saturday, expect another hot and humid afternoon with highs in the middle to upper 90s and heat index values once again climbing into the 103 to 107 range.

While the heat will be the dominant story during the first half of the day, isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible Saturday afternoon and evening.

Most communities will stay dry, but any storm that develops could become briefly strong or severe.

The atmosphere remains very unstable, and dry air higher in the atmosphere could allow stronger storms to produce localized damaging wind gusts.
