COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – As storms fire up later today, a few of them may be strong or severe.

  • First Alert Weather Day for the potential of strong storms.
  • Today’s best chance of rain is during the afternoon and evening.
  • Lower humidity filters in for the end of the weekend.

First Alert Summary:

Good morning! Today is a First Alert Weather Day for the potential of strong storms during the afternoon and evening. Before storms fire up, it’ll be hot and humid, with high temperatures in the low and mid-90s.

As we reach the peak heat of the day, scattered showers and thunderstorms will fire up. Some of today’s storms may be strong or severe. A Level 2 of 5 ‘Slight’ risk is in effect for most of the Midlands. With any strong storm that develops, gusty winds and small hail are the main threats.

These storms will be capable of producing heavy rain as well. Localized flooding in our typical trouble spots will be possible during the afternoon and evening. Because of this, a Level 2 of 4 ‘Slight’ risk of excessive rainfall has also been issued for parts of the Midlands.

The cold front responsible for today’s storm chance will pass through the Carolinas Saturday. To start the weekend, this brings another chance for thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Behind this cold front, Sunday is dry and will feature lower humidity, making it a nice end to the weekend.

First Alert Forecast:
