Volunteers remove 6,000 pounds of litter from Midlands waterways

More than 350 volunteers joined an annual cleanup of Lake Murray and surrounding waterways this month, removing more than 6,000 pounds of litter, recyclables and bulk items from waterways in Richland and Lexington counties.

Keep the Midlands Beautiful coordinated this year’s Lake Sweep/River Sweep on Sept. 19 with help from more than 30 event partners, including Dominion Energy, Lexington County Solid Waste Management and PalmettoPride.
