South Carolina’s new license plate design sparks controversy

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina’s new default license plate is generating debate among drivers as the design commemorating the American Revolution’s 250th anniversary appears on vehicles across the state.

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles began issuing the new plate in January at all locations. The design features the Moultrie flag, a blue flag with the word “Liberty” in white and a gorget in the upper corner, along with the phrase “Where the Revolutionary War was won.”

According to House Bill 3175, the plate commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. The design replaces the state’s blue “While I Breathe, I Hope” plate as part of a 10-year update mandated by the legislature…
