Earthquake hits unusual part of Richland County, the 6th in South Carolina in a month

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have confirmed that part of Richland County got a small rumble on Friday, and current records show it wasn’t in one of the usual areas.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported on Saturday that a magnitude 1.9 earthquake occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Friday, roughly 6 miles north of Irmo. Based on seismic data, the agency believes the earthquake’s epicenter was near Lilton Road, south of Monticello Road and north of the Broad River.

Earthquakes of this magnitude are considered minor and are rarely felt by people. USGS currently shows no reports of people noticing this earthquake…
