COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The parents and siblings of two teenagers killed at a Columbus block party in 2022 took the stand Tuesday as prosecutors began presenting their case against Elijah Smith, the man accused of shooting them.
Smith is charged in the deaths of Marque Humber and Nakevius Petty, both 19, who were killed April 10, 2022, at a memorial block party on Fort Benning Road. The shooting was captured on Facebook Live. Humber was an active-duty soldier.
Opening statements
Prosecutor Austin Hammock told jurors the evidence and witnesses would point directly to Smith.
“You’re going to hear from some other people that was at this party and they are going to tell you that Mr. Smith was wearing an orange hat, a white t-shirt, jeans, and some very distinctive shoes that match his outfit — and they’re going to point out to you that it’s this man, it’s this man in that video that’s pulling the trigger,” Hammock said…
