Inside Columbus police K-9 Havoc’s life-saving journey from scene to recovery

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus police K-9 Havoc is back home with his handler and recovering after being shot in the line of duty.

Havoc, a two-year-old German shepherd cross-trained in narcotics detection, tracking and apprehension, was airlifted from Columbus to a veterinary trauma center in Auburn by medical transport company Survival Flight — a trip that, according to officials, took about 13 minutes by air. It was the company’s first-ever canine transport.

On June 22, Columbus officials confirmed the shooting at the Dollar General on Victory Drive and the scene near Baker Plaza Drive — near the former Muscogee Elementary School — were connected. A Columbus police officer and Havoc were both injured in the shooting at that location…
