Police officer, driver injured after pursuit crash in La Habra

A police officer in pursuit of an erratic driver struck an uninvolved motorist on Friday night, sending both to the hospital.

The chase started around 10:30 p.m. when an officer responded to a call for an erratic driver near Harbor and Whittier boulevards in La Habra, according to a release from the La Habra Police Department.

Upon attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the driver took off, and a pursuit was initiated down Cypress Street from Whittier Boulevard.

As the pursuit crossed the intersection of Cypress and Lambert Road, the officer involved crashed into a civilian vehicle and the pursuit was immediately terminated.

Both the police officer and the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision were taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary measures, La Habra police confirmed.

A K9 officer was inside the patrol vehicle but was not injured in the crash.
