Texas-based burger chain continues expansion as new locations open across the U.S.

While some restaurant chains are shrinking their footprints, Whataburger is continuing its push into new markets. The Texas-born burger brand has announced additional openings and development plans as it works to bring its signature orange-and-white restaurants to more communities nationwide.

Whataburger expands beyond its Texas roots

Founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Whataburger spent decades building a loyal following throughout the South. In recent years, however, the company has accelerated expansion efforts beyond its traditional territory.

The chain now operates more than 1,100 locations. Whataburger’s latest expansion plans call for new restaurants across several states. According to the company, new locations are scheduled to open in Texas, Arizona, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia as the burger chain continues expanding beyond its traditional Texas stronghold.

New markets fuel growth

Whataburger’s expansion strategy focuses on high-growth regions where population increases and strong consumer demand can support new restaurants. The company has also entered several metropolitan areas where it previously had little or no presence.

The growth comes as consumers continue seeking familiar regional brands with strong customer loyalty. Whataburger’s menu, which includes customizable burgers, chicken sandwiches, and breakfast offerings, has helped the chain build a devoted fan base far beyond Texas.
