Deadly North Texas storms with large hail leave 1 dead, 6 injured

At least one person is dead and six are injured after severe storms swept through North Texas Saturday night.

Officials in Wise County, about 75 miles northwest of Dallas, have confirmed one fatality, though NBC5 reported the decedent’s identity has not been released. Six people were treated or transported by EMS for storm-related injuries and at least 20 families have been displaced.

During a Sunday morning press conference, County Judge J.D. Clark said vehicles had been tossed, power lines were downed and roofs were missing, according to CBS News. Clark said rescue and medical operations were ongoing, including response from the American Red Cross, and that crews were working to clear hazards in the Runaway Bay area.

Severe thunderstorms moved the North Texas area through Saturday night, bringing wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour and golf ball-sized hail. Roughly 40,000 people lost power in the region last night, reported WFAA, particularly across Dallas, Tarrant, Wise and Parker counties…
