INDIAN HILLS, Colo. (KDVR) — A new Colorado law went into effect Wednesday, making luring bears with food or trash a misdemeanor.

Last year about 57% of bear sightings were linked to food found in the trash, and in 2024, 68 black bears were relocated, while 98 were euthanized because of incidents with humans according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).
There are nearly 20,000 bears in Colorado. CPW told FOX31 that fire and drought conditions have destroyed many food sources driving wildlife into lower elevations to search for food to prepare for the hibernation season.
