(KTLA) – A missing climber crawled down one of the tallest mountains in California after slicing his feet open during a 500-foot fall last week.
The missing San Jose resident successfully summited Mount Shasta in Northern California shortly before the accident at around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
“His cellphone died after summiting, and the climber’s friends became concerned when they were unable to contact him the following day,” the U.S. Forest Service said. “They then reported him missing to the Sheriff’s Office.”
Mount Shasta Climbing Rangers, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew began searching for the missing man in the Avalanche Gulch area at around 2 p.m. on Sept. 11.
