Westminster family faces mounting vet bills after dog attack

Westminster, Colo. (KDVR) — A Westminster couple says they are facing thousands of dollars in veterinary bills after their dog was seriously injured in an attack earlier this month.

The family’s 5-year-old terrier mix, Doucette, has already undergone two surgeries and is scheduled for a third procedure Monday as veterinarians attempt to close a severe wound. The attack happened April 16, when the family said another dog ran out of a nearby home and immediately attacked.

According to owner Wayne Emerson, he and his family were walking Doucette to a playground with their 2-year-old son when the incident occurred.

“I just keep going back in my head, like, what could I have done differently?” Emerson said. “What really scared me the most is that our two-year-old son was 10 feet away from the whole accident.”…
