Denver holding mulch and compost giveaway on Saturday

DENVER — Denver gardeners can get free mulch and compost from the city during a giveaway Saturday.

Denver is hosting its annual mulch giveaway from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2. Trees dropped off during the Treecycle program are mulched and distributed back to Denver residents at this event.

Dig-your-own mulch is available at four locations, while supplies last:

  • Denver Central Platte Campus, North Entrance (Enter through the campus gates at 2000 W. 3rd Avenue. Head right at the stop sign and follow signs for Mulch Giveaway)
  • Cherry Creek Transfer Station (7301 E Jewell Ave. Enter on E. Jewell Ave)
  • Sloan’s Lake Park North Parking Lot (N. Yates St. and W. Byron Pl.)
  • Havana Nursery (10450 Smith Rd.) – In addition to dig-your-own, free loader service is available at the Havana location for trucks and small one-axle trailers.

The city said the events are open to Denver residents only. Commercial vehicles are prohibited. Residents are asked to bring their own rake or shovel, as well as bags or containers for loading mulch and a tarp to cover the truck or trailer…
