MADISON COUNTY, Iowa– A Madison County judge has ordered the man accused of killing his mother to be held without bail while he awaits trial on a first-degree murder charge.
Defense attorneys for Theodore James Corkrean, 23, had asked the court to review his original $5 million cash-only bond. However, after a hearing, the judge ruled that a new Iowa law requires defendants charged with forcible felonies to be held without bail if the court finds probable cause that they committed the offense. The judge found the standard had been met.
The hearing was held on July 1, the same day the law went into effect.
Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered the body of 60-year-old Tammy Corkrean on June 21 after responding to a welfare check at her Van Meter home. She had been shot the day before, said Sheriff Jason Barnes. Court documents described it as an “execution-style killing.”…
