DES MOINES, Iowa — While the Iowa State Fair celebrates it’s new foods each year, one “New Food” has hung on for the past 20 years, and is the most popular item on the Iowa Cattlemen’s beef quarters.
The dish Hot Beef Sundae came about because of some leftover beef scraps, which the general manager wanted to find some use for.
“He had some leftover beef, roast beef trimmings at the end of the day from our sandwiches, etc. and came to me and said, I hate to throw these away. What can we do?”
