DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines man was sentenced to more than 50 years for multiple offenses, including a 2025 fatal shooting outside a strip club.
In September 2025, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said they were investigating a fatal shooting in The Lumberyard parking lot. Days later, authorities announced that 31-year-old Derico Derrell Lowery had been arrested in connection with the shooting, which killed 28-year-old De’Tavion Marques Levi.
Lowery was charged with Murder in the First Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm and taken to the Polk County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty to the charges shortly after, according to court records.
According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, on Sept. 13, 2025, witnesses told police they had seen Levi and Lowery arguing in the Lumberyard parking lot just before the shooting. According to records, investigators found no gun on Levi.
Over the next few months, several continuances were filed in the case until July 2026, when Lowery entered a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to amended charges of Involuntary Manslaughter and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, both Class D Felonies…
