IOWA — Our rainy, wet pattern is back for Central Iowa. This is a very unusual pattern for September, as September is typically one of our drier months. Periods of heavy rain are expected to move through at times all the way through the weekend.
As of Monday morning, Des Moines is at 7.61″ of rain. That puts us in 9th place for wettest September and we are only half way through the month.
More rain and storms are crossing the state Monday morning between 8 and 1 PM. There will be a break in between, but more storms move in with a cold front tonight.
Some of those storms could be severe, with damaging winds, hail and an isolated tornado threat. There is also a risk of flash flooding.
A flood watch is in effect until 7 AM Tuesday.
There will be rain chances each day and by the end of the week an additional 2 to 5″ of rain is possible. This is a look at totals between Monday and late Friday night.
