The National Weather Service in Des Moines is warning Iowans to prepare for several rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall through the weekend.
According to the latest weather briefing issued Thursday, September 17, additional rain could create concerns for flash flooding, as well as rises on area rivers and streams. Saturated ground conditions could make it easier for additional rainfall to cause flooding in some areas.
The threat for severe weather returns Friday afternoon and evening, with damaging winds expected to be the primary concern. The National Weather Service says isolated severe storms are possible, and a tornado or two cannot be ruled out in parts of western Iowa if conditions become more favorable.
