WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — The Walnut Creek Campus in West Des Moines has served high schoolers with alternative-style education for the past three decades. Now the doors are closed for good.
The change came after a controversial vote by the West Des Moines School Board to close operations this last school year. Walnut Creek Principal Kim Davis shared that the decision was received with heavy hearts.
“I think a lot of students have been successful that maybe would have struggled otherwise,” Davis said. “They found a home here and like I said before, we are a family here at Walnut Creek, so I think some students just needed a smaller and different environment to thrive.”…
