Tigers’ Tarik Skubal wows West Michigan crowd in near-perfect rehab start as return nears

COMSTOCK PARK, MI — Tarik Skubal was two strikes away from an immaculate inning before many fans had settled into their seats Sunday.

He looked big-league sharp from the jump.

With a palpable West Michigan buzz in the air, the Detroit Tigers ace put on a show in his rehab for the High-A West Michigan Whitecaps, spinning five scoreless innings with six strikeouts against the Dayton Dragons in front of a packed LMCU Ballpark on Sunday.

He threw 54 pitches; 44 for strikes — and retired 15 of the 17 batters he faced. He zoomed through his out so quickly, he threw roughly 15 more pitches in the bullpen afterwards…
