A significant stretch of the I-696 rehabilitation project is near completion, state transportation officials say.
More than two years after the eastbound lanes of an 8-mile stretch of 696 from M-10 to I-75 shut down, causing headaches for more than 200,000 drivers forced to find different routes, the freeway from Lahser Road to I-75 will be complete by the end of 2026, said Brian Travis, 696 project manager with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
