DETROIT (WWJ) — A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot in the stomach in Detroit.
WWJ Newsradio 950’s Charlie Langton reports the shooting happened early Wednesday morning on the city’s west side, possibly on Grand Street near Dexter and Davidson.
The parents of the boy are in custody, and Child Protected Service was contacted.
Detroit Police investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what happened, as the parents’ stories aren’t matching-up.
According to police, the boy’s mother said she went to do laundry, leaving a teenager with the 3-year-old and two other young children in the home. She told police that when she returned, she heard shots. Police said they aren’t seeing any evidence that a shooting happened in the home.
Police did not release any details about what the boy’s father said happened, but said the dad’s story conflicts with what the mother said.
The wounded child is being treated at a local hospital.
No names have been released, as the investigation continues with the assistance of Michigan State Police.
