As the Detroit school district prepares to close four schools next monthas part of its accelerated phase-out plan, another school in the district will be closing sooner than expected.
Thurgood Marshall Elementary-Middle School on the city’s west side is closing at the end of next school year, Detroit Public Schools Community District Superintendent Nikolai Vitti confirmed to BridgeDetroit on May 8. Those students will transfer to the new Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy building that is slated to open in the fall of 2027.
