Hundreds of drones will light up the Chapel Hill sky this Fourth of July, bringing a new, and more sustainable, celebration to the annual Independence Day festivities.
On Saturday night, 300 drones will paint the sky above Chapel Hill High School, marking the town’s first-ever drone show and a new venue location. The show, produced by global drone company Skyworx, replaces the fireworks display that has traditionally been the highlight of Chapel Hill’s July Fourth celebrations.
Town officials decided to do the drone show at the end of last year, after a 2024 survey asked residents to rank their preferences among a fireworks show, a drone show, no celebration or an “other” option…
