CHAPEL HILL – Officials in the University of North Carolina’s athletics department have spent the last year working toward launching a limited liability company (LLC) to oversee a significant part of Carolina athletics.
This move will reflect where collegiate athletics are heading, given the sweeping changes in recent years that have rocked prior foundations in how athletic departments were previously run.
In short, UNC must find revenue streams not previously part of the athletic department model, and moving to an LLC and adding notable staffing positions has positioned Carolina for the new future of managing and creating revenue and assets deemed absolutely necessary to satisfy the university’s quest for excellence in its 28 sanctioned sports teams…
