Faculty members and senior administrators convened Thursday at Academic Council to discuss updates to East Campus security measures — including locking down all East Campus buildings — and changes to Duke’s policy on research collaborations amid federal scrutiny into the University’s foreign ties.
John Dailey, associate vice president for public safety and Duke chief of police, outlined new security changes in response to rising concerns both locally and nationally, citing past incidents of gun violence at Brown University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He announced that all East Campus buildings, including non-residence halls, will be locked at all times and accessible by DukeCard holders only.
