As Durham grapples with persistent gun violence, new Police Chief Stephanie Mardis says finding solutions will begin with listening to the people most affected by it.
“I believe every resident in this city has the right to live and prosper and be able to walk down the street and enjoy this beautiful community,” Mardis said. “If we have sections of this city that residents can’t do that, I take that personally.”
