Advance Auto Parts Foundation announces awards to workforce readiness programs in its hometown communities

Advance Auto Parts , a leading automotive aftermarket parts provider in North America that serves both professional installers and do-it-yourself customers, this week announced recipients of the Advance Auto Parts Foundation’s Moving Forward program, which awarded $10,000 gifts to local workforce readiness nonprofits, including nine Triangle‑area organizations.

These awards support organizations in the foundation’s hometown communities of Raleigh and Roanoke, Va. The Moving Forward program aims to strengthen the Triangle by recognizing and supporting nonprofits focused on helping individuals prepare for and succeed in the workforce through education, life‑skills development, mentoring, vocational training, career exploration and other employment‑focused support.

“For more than 94 years, Advance has taken pride in serving our customers and communities, including those around our Raleigh headquarters and in Roanoke where the company was founded and has numerous team members and facilities today,” explained Todd Davenport, president of the Advance Auto Parts Foundation. “Workforce readiness is a core philanthropic priority at Advance, and the company and its foundation are proud to support organizations that help people move forward in life and work.” This is the program’s second year distributing the awards and this year’s Raleigh‑area recipients include:

  • Durham Tech Community College Foundation
  • Hope Renovations
  • LIFE Skills Foundation
  • NPower North Carolina
  • StepUp Durham
  • Wake County Public School System
  • Wheels 4 Hope

“We are incredibly grateful to be chosen as a Moving Forward gift recipient,” said Cashmere Bentley, interim executive director of StepUp Durham. “This support allows us to meet the real, everyday needs of the people we serve without restriction.” Jennifer McFarland, director of development at Hope Renovations, added, “The support from Advance will help fund weekly stipends for our trainees.
