OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Bomb Squad responded on Aug. 27 after TSA officers found suspicious items in checked baggage at Will Rogers International Airport.
“During routine checked baggage screening, TSA officers identified items that required additional review,” the spokesperson said. “The items were first noted during the X-ray image review process by a certified TSA officer and the bag was referred for additional physical screening.”
The items were later identified as demonstration tools associated with fracking and oil drilling activities.
Why the bomb squad was called
TSA personnel requested an additional review by an explosives specialist after the items were discovered.
“When TSA officers identify an item that may present a potential explosives concern, TSA follows established security procedures to ensure the item is assessed safely and appropriately,” the spokesperson said. “In this case, TSA personnel followed established procedures and requested additional review by an explosives specialist.”…
