Nephew of ‘El Chapo’ arrested in Mexican border town

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — Mexican officials said they have arrested the nephew of drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

In a post on Tuesday on X, Mexican Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch said the Mexican military, the National Guard and federal prosecutors carried out two “significant actions” against criminal organizations.

The first took place in the Mexican border town of Nogales, Sonora — right across the border from Nogales, Arizona — where authorities arrested Isai “N,” Guzman’s nephew, who has an extradition order. Mexican authorities don’t release the last names of suspects until they are convicted.

Guzman is the co-founder of the Sinaloa cartel. He is serving a life sentence at the “Supermax” prison in Colorado.

Harfuch said that in Tapachula, Chiapas, on the southern border, the execution of a search warrant at one property resulted in the discovery of more than 1,500 pounds of cocaine, 151 firearms, 363 magazines, and 18 grenades.

“These actions reflect the permanent coordination of the Mexican State to apprehend priority targets and weaken the operational capabilities of criminal groups,” Harfuch said. “We thank the support and collaboration of the authorities of the Government of Chiapas.”…
