SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Sunland Park mayor wants to address concerns regarding a possible dam breach, telling his constituents on Friday that their homes and lives are not under threat.
In a press conference on Friday afternoon, Mayor Javier Perea said that if the Cement Lake dam were to break, the Sunland Park community would not be flooded, explaining that the water would flow south down the Rio Grande, which stands between the dam and the city.
Perea said he wanted to address rumors that the dam is threatening people’s lives and/or property in Sunland Park.
