Many people like to enjoy the sunny summer days, but experts warn that it’s not the best idea when the heat index is high.
Erie is experiencing one of its hottest weeks of the year and with it also being during the summer holiday, many people are going outside to celebrate.

And unfortunately, some of those people are getting heat-related injuries, including second-degree burns.
“And another thing with kids, you know and I’ve seen this in the past too, they’ll go to these playgrounds with these slides, and those slides will heat up and the kids will jump on the slide and go down and they will get burns,” said Dr. Peter Intrieri of UPMC Hamot emergency medicine. “One of my favorite residents is saying that she’s seen a lot of cases, people even in the homes, that don’t have the appropriate air conditioning or fans or whatnot.”…
