After picking up a Regional opening win over Yale on Friday Night, the Oregon Baseball team entered Saturday to put themselves in total control of the Regional. Much to the disappointment of fans of the in-state rivalry, Oregon matched up against the Washington State Cougars who knocked off Oregon State in the 1st game of the Regional.
On Friday Night, it was the Oregon offense that led the way, especially late as the Ducks blew the game open in the 8th inning. While the offense has been the driving force behind the team’s success, on Saturday it was the Will Sanford show.
Will Sanford’s dazzling start sends Oregon to Regional Final
When Mark Wasikowski set his lineup for the opening game of regionals, he made the decision to pitch off in the opener against Yale. The decision to save Will Sanford worked out with the Ducks as they won Friday Night, but part of proving it was the right decision was winning the game on Saturday.
Will Sanford made the game easy for the Oregon Ducks as he turned in 6.1 innings of shutout baseball before turning the game over to the bullpen at 114 pitches. Sanford was working a step ahead the entire night, racking up 14 strikeouts while allowing just 1 hit and a pair of walks in the outing…
