The final ticket to golf’s national championship did not come easily in Oregon.
What began as a demanding day of competition at Emerald Valley Golf Club near Creswell evolved into one of the most dramatic finishes seen anywhere in this year’s U.S. Open qualifying process. By the time the final putt dropped, competitors had battled through 36 holes of regulation golf, fading daylight, an overnight suspension, and a playoff that stretched across two days before a winner finally emerged.
The event, known throughout the golf world as Final Qualifying or “Golf’s Longest Day,” brought professional and amateur golfers from across the country to Oregon for an opportunity that exists nowhere else in the sport.
